Not many parents are aware that just like the Aadhaar Card and Passport, they can apply for a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card<\/a> for their minor children. It is a common misconception that one should be of at least 18 years of age or should have an income source to apply for a PAN card.<\/p>\n

There are a number of advantages that your child can avail after getting a PAN card. So, if you want to get a PAN Card for your child, here is a step by step guide to assist you in initiating the PAN application process.<\/p>\n

A minor\u2019s PAN card has a different look and feel from an adult\u2019s PAN card; however, structurally both the cards are the same. A minor\u2019s PAN card does not have their photograph and signature. The Section 160 of IT Act, 1961 provides that a minor may be represented through a representative assessee to apply for a PAN card. Thus, the details of a minor and the representative assessee, both need to be provided for the application of minor PAN.<\/p>\n

Why to apply for a Minor\u2019s PAN Card?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

It is mandatory to have a minor\u2019s PAN card in certain conditions, such as:<\/p>\n

  1. A PAN card acts as a valid proof of date of birth for a minor.<\/li>\n
  2. With a PAN Card, a minor can easily be made a nominee of shares, property or financial assets.<\/li>\n
  3. The parents can make financial investments in the name of their children, only if they hold a PAN card.<\/li>\n
  4. With a PAN card, a child can have a detailed financial identity and history from an early age.<\/li>\n
  5. It is mandatory for minors to have a PAN card if they are involved in financial transactions, while being under guardianship.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Online process to apply for Pan Card for minors<\/span>
    \n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    In order to apply for a PAN card for minors, visit the official website to apply for PAN. The online application process involves filling a detailed form that must be signed by either the parent or the guardian of the minor. Though, as mentioned earlier, the minor\u2019s PAN card does not contain their photograph or signature, it continues to carry the same number as an adult’s PAN card.<\/p>\n

    Step 1: Visit the official website<\/span> <\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Visit the official NSDL Portal or apply through registered e-governance partners. Once you share your basic information, choose action and authenticate your identity & mobile number by sharing OTP, you will be redirected to official PAN application form
    \nThe citizens of India need to submit their \u2018Application for allotment of new PAN\u2019 in the revised Form 49A only. This form can be used when the applicant has not applied for a PAN card earlier and does not have a PAN card allotted to him ever. The foreign citizens need to fill form 49AA for a minor PAN card.<\/p>\n

    Step 2: Select the type of application<\/span>
    \n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In the Application Type dropdown menu, select \u201cNew PAN for Indian Citizen\u201d or \u201cNew PAN for Foreign Citizen, as applicable. In the Category dropdown menu, select \u2018Individual\u2019.<\/p>\n

    Step 3: Complete details<\/span>
    \n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Enter the complete information to fill the form, such as applicant\u2019s name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number. Enter Captcha and then submit the form.<\/p>\n

    Step 4: Upload documents<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    For a child\u2019s application, copy of Aadhaar of Minor and following list of documents of any of the parents\/guardians are accepted as the proof of identity and address. . After uploading all the documents, the applicant is required to make the payment.<\/p>\n

    Documents for proof of identity \u2014<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

    (a) copy of photo identity card as issued by Central Government\/State Government\/PSU; or<\/p>\n

    (b) copy of ration card having photograph of the applicant; or<\/p>\n

    (c) passport; or<\/p>\n

    (d) copy of driving license; or<\/p>\n

    (e) copy of arm’s license; or<\/p>\n

    (f) copy of AADHAR Card issued by UIDAI; or<\/p>\n

    (g) copy of Pensioner Card having photograph of the applicant; or<\/p>\n

    (h) copy of Central Government Health Scheme Card or<\/p>\n

    (i) copy of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme photo card; or<\/p>\n

    (j) Original Certificate of Identity signed by a Member of Parliament (MP) or Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Municipal Councillor or a Gazetted Officer, as the case may be; or
    \n(k) Original bank certificate on letterhead from the branch, issuing officer’s name and stamp, containing attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant.<\/p>\n
