How to Exit or Withdraw from the NPS Vatsalya account?

In these cases, guardians can partially withdraw up to 25% of the contribution.

The exits and withdrawals under the NPS Vatsalya are governed by the provisions of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Regulations, 2015 and its amendments.

Here are some key details about how to exit or withdraw from NPS Vatsalya-

  1. Subscribers or their parents/guardians may take up to two partial withdrawals until the child completes 18 years of age.
  2. After the subscriber attains the age of 18, they can avail two additional partial withdrawals between the age of 18 and 21 years.
  3. In the case of the death of the minor subscriber, the complete accumulated corpus is paid to the parent or guardian or nominee or legal heir, as per the case.
  4. The subscriber can transfer the proceeds to their own NPS account and avail its benefits till the age of retirement.
  5. In case of the death of the guardian, another guardian can register themselves on behalf of the minor subscriber of NPS Vatsalya scheme after completing KYC formalities.

    If both parents are deceased, the child’s legally-appointed guardian can continue to manage the account, whether or not they make further contributions.

  6. As the child turns 18 years, they can choose to continue in the scheme, shift the accumulated corpus to NPS, or exit the scheme. On exit, if the accumulated corpus is ₹8 lakh or more, up to 80% can be withdrawn as a lump sum and at least 20% must be used to purchase an annuity. If the corpus is less than ₹8 lakh, the entire corpus can be withdrawn at 18 years.
  7. In case the subscriber does not choose to either exit or shift to NPS, the account then shifts to NPS in a higher-equity scheme automatically, under the same Pension Fund.
